In adolescence, pain has no specific origin, and is generally due to high levels of prostaglandins in the arteries. These unsaturated fatty acids contract the uterine muscle, allowing menstruation to pass.
It should be noted that an unbalanced diet and stress can aggravate these symptoms. In adults, outside the menopause period, pain may be caused by gynaecological disorders. In this case, a medical examination is strongly recommended, especially if the pain is repeated and worsens. In all cases, the troubles are frequently accompanied by nausea, general fatigue, migraines... To calm menstrual pain, Basil essential oil and appropriate synergies are recommended.
Calming menstrual pain with Basil essential oil
Menstruation lasts around five days, appearing every month from puberty to the menopause. Ovarian hormones modify the uterine lining during the cycle, which can lead to pain in the lower abdomen and/or lower kidneys. These symptoms, generally of moderate intensity, can become more violent and appear shortly before or during menstruation. A healthy lifestyle is recommended, with a focus on sporting activities, reducing alcohol, coffee and salt, and drinking plenty of magnesium-rich water.
A particularly effective method for reducing menstrual pain is the use of Basil essential oil. Basil has recognized antispasmodic properties and acts on both the muscles and the nervous system. For intense pain during the first few days of menstruation, a drop of Basil essential oil can be taken two or three times a day on a neutral tablet. During the cycle, massage the lower abdomen (around the ovaries) by diluting one drop of Basil essential oil in 4 drops of vegetable oil, 2 or 3 times a day. Basil essential oil is not recommended for pregnant or breast-feeding women.
The best essential oils for menstrual pain relief
To soothe menstrual pain, certain essential oils are particularly recommended when used in combination. Simply massage the lower abdomen with 6 drops of the synergy, using circular movements 4 times a day. The following blend is particularly effective:
- tarragon essential oil
- borage vegetable oil
- bergamot essential oil
- clary Sage essential oil
Tarragon essential oil soothes menstrual pain thanks to its antispasmodic properties, which relieve spasms and limit uterine contractions. It also helps reduce future lower-abdominal pain during the following cycle.
Borage vegetable oil acts on the hormonal system and thus on the cause of the disorder. It reinforces the effects of the other ingredients in the synergy.
Bergamot, on the other hand, has a very pleasant scent, and its action on the nervous system greatly reduces situations of stress and anxiety, often the cause of pain. This essential oil calms and soothes the body, reducing uterine contractions.
Finally, Clary Sage increases estrogen production in the blood, resulting in a rise in serotonin, the well-being hormone.
Nausea or mood swings are therefore reduced. This synergy is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, asthmatics or those suffering from gallstones. Long exposure to the sun is not recommended within 12 hours of application.
