The time needed to diffuse essential oils depends on a number of factors, such as the type of essential oil used, the size of the room, the power of the diffuser and personal aroma preferences.
In general, we recommend diffusing essential oils for 2 to 3 minutes per hour per person, with regular breaks of at least 30 minutes between diffusion periods. This gives your body time to process the aromatic molecules and avoids olfactory over-stimulation.
It is important to follow the diffuser manufacturer's instructions and not to exceed the recommended diffusion time. It is also advisable not to diffuse essential oils continuously for long periods, as this can cause olfactory fatigue and possibly irritation of the respiratory tract.
In short, essential oil diffusion times need to be adjusted to each individual situation, and it's important to exercise caution and common sense when using essential oils.
Suggested use to create a personalized home ambiance:
- 5 to 10 min per hour, or 30 min in the early morning, 30 min in the late afternoon.
- In bedrooms, to deodorize the room or promote sleep and relaxation: 5 to 10 min on rising and 5 to 10 min before going to bed.
- In a patient's room, to reduce fever, fatigue and tension, and to eliminate germs: 5 to 10 min per hour.
Is it necessary to clean the diffuser when changing essential oils?
It's not necessary to change essential oils if you want to diffuse different essential oils, unless you don't want to mix certain fragrances and enjoy the "pure fragrance" of each oil or synergy.
It's mainly for maintenance reasons that you should regularly clean your diffuser. Protect them from dust and avoid using hard water. Ultrasonic diffusers can be cleaned with soapy water or white vinegar.
Here's how to clean your essential oil diffuser:
-
Turn off the diffuser and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
-
Empty any water remaining in the diffuser tank, or the essential oil if you have an air diffuser.
-
Use a soft cloth to wipe the inside of the tank and the outer surface of the diffuser.
-
Pour a little alcohol or our diffuser cleaner into the diffuser tank and use a soft cloth to wipe the inside walls. The alcohol helps dissolve any essential oil residues that may be stuck to the inside.
-
Rinse the tank thoroughly with clean water to remove any alcohol residue.
-
Carefully wipe the tank and outer surface of the diffuser with a soft, clean cloth.
-
Allow the diffuser to dry completely before using again.
We also recommend regular deep cleaning of your diffuser, about once a week, following the manufacturer's instructions for proper care.
Please also consult your diffuser's instructions.
